It also means all the hard work and handles are removed creating a clean safe space to work around the Handler. And finally, they’ve incorporated an automatic Neck extender that gently pushes the cow’s head forward, creating accessible neck space making it super safe for a person to attach the collar.

Country Trader: “Prize For Keeping Quiet” Rotorua based TechniPharm won first prize in the Innovation Awards contest at the Southern Field Days, Waimumu, for its rotating yoke headbail. The unit was launched at the National Fieldays. Features include a quiet ratchet to avoid disturbing livestock, instead, using the company’s Kwiklock ram to keep the yokes firmly closed and guaranteed not to open until released by the operator. Also notable is the use of a vertically mounted operating handle replacing the usual horizontal lever. The vertical lever enables the operator to work with the more natural action, reducing shoulder strain and ‘tennis elbow’ pain often suffered with prolonged use. The operating mechanism has a minimum of linkages and bolts.

THE DAIRY HANDLER AND COLLAR CARE HEADBAIL In TechniPharm’s Dairy Handling design history we go back nearly 35 years… it’s where we started.There is a reason why we do things the way we do them, below we explain some of the features of the various handling complements and the benefits to you as the operator RUBBER LINED YOKE The specially designed rubber lined yoke ensures locking of the head and restricts up and down movement, the yoke shape and the use of rubber is vital to making this system work . In our research we monitored many cattle large and small to find the optimum design. NECK EXTENDERS/ MANUAL/AUTO The unique patented neck extenders ensure the head is brought further forward and gives plenty of access for dehorning, tagging, pink eye treatment, compudosing and all those other “head” jobs. Its the only way you will have full access! The moon shape of the headbail greatly improves access from all sides and allows full elbow room, a feature lacking in alternative products. The unique aspects of the TechniPharm Handler Headbail resides in the full head control without additional items or horizontal head locks. This means full operational features and safety remains at all times in the hands of the operator by use of just one handle (no walking back and forwards to operate the same). Operator and animal safety as well as handling speed is optimum. The collar care system gives you full automated neck extenders. SIDE GATES All side gates are full size or split, if split they may be locked by pins to a full gate. They are hinged from the front. Why should they be hinged from the front (rear opening)? Because the camlatch to open the side gate is at the “rear” of the unit where the operator mostly operates the handler from. By having the gate opening camlatches close to the operator at the rear of the handler, he or she can open the side gates from ‘one position’ (no need to walk). Also front opening handlers can pose a real risk of having the gate forced back onto the operator as the animal exits. Additional benefits of front hinging is that calves can be let into the handler from the operator side ‘straight towards the udder’ - the operator can fully immobilize the cow with the headbail & squeeze (double or single) on, allowing the operator to do the job in safety, with minimal stress on the cow and her calf. You can however ask for us to change the gate hinging to suit your requirements. (see work sheets) Supreme 3 Gate access unique and perfect The 3 split gate access access in the Supreme is simply super, originally designed for research facilities like Ag research, Massey and Lincoln, its use fullness on day to day animal work made us decide to include this on all Supreme Handlers
ANTI SWAYBAR This National Fieldays Award Winning addition to our Handler range provides for a unique feature in that it allows the operator to open all gates on one side of the handler, have full access to the animal without running the risk that the animal “falls over” or steps sideways. This “unique to TechniPharm” anti sway bar provides for full unrestricted access to the “whole side of the animal” in a safe manner. Incorporated in the Supreme and locked into the Hoofcare unit. SQUEEZE and ANTI-BACKING A good parallel squeeze is vital for optimum control and restriction, many farmers initially underestimate this feature. The benefits of a double-sided squeeze are a full reduction of width of the unit, proper positioning of the animals and full control for jobs such as pregnancy testing, A.I, but also when weighing calves or heifers it avoids a “turn” around option. An animal with its head in a Cattle Handler Headbail and being squeezed is in complete immobilized position allowing you to do whatever needs doing in full safety while keeping animal stress levels to a minimum. The TechniPharm Handler squeeze is operated by one handle and locked by a Hydralock ram, easy and fast operation and an instant noise free effortless lock. All gates can be split top and bottom and can also be equipped with drop down gates for maximum access to any of the flank and back. (Handy for continued pour-ons, branding or backfat scanning) Locking of the squeeze is by means of one handle lock or release, alternatively air operation or hydraulic is also possible. VET SECTION The Vet Section is designed for full and safe access, the gates again are swung from the front, this is unique to TechniPharm Handlers, all imported or alternative units have opposite swinging gates and this is not really thought through and/or suitable for NZ handling situations. The TechniPharm Handler allows the vet or A.I person to “step” in the vet section ready to enter the rear area of the cow and step back, knowing a quick and easy access is there at all times. The special VET SAFETY gate which closed behind the cow means an animal can not kick back and in the event an animal does go down it allows a vets arm to follow safely, rather than being squashed between gate and animal. The Supreme has a vet section which the hoofcare unit can be entered from the side or rear. REAR DOOR The rear door (double sliding like an elevator door) of the Supreme Handler has 2 nylon rollers per door for optimum effortless rolling and an automatic lock system which means that the person entering the handler knows that the next animal can not open or jump the gate. Why split doors? It means you only have to pull and shut 400 mm which is convenient arm movement, but above all it means a very effective way to stop the next animal from pushing its way into the handler a real bonus when you are weighing! The extra height of the Handlers also mean there is no way an animal will jump out (or in) and a person does not have to bend down to enter. Front operation of this door is a real valuable option and allows you to let animals in while working from the front of the Handler. The Hoofcare Handler has a single slide gate only. FLOOR To accommodate weighing a floor is vital, the floor can either be checker plate or rubber lined steel. Rubber lined floors offer a “skid free”, noise free environment and are recommended. (Expanded mesh floors are not used as they hurt the animal if it goes down, in our view any company having this as a standard option do not know what they are doing) Floors can be accommodated in all units as an option. HOOFTRIMMING Every unit is equipped with front Hooftrim supports and rear feet and belly hoist. MULTI-LUGS All Handlers are standard equipped with mounting-lugs. Multilugs are optional and fit all common brands of weigh bars. Weighing dairy stock means you can check and safe feed. 3-WAY DRAFTING Straight out of the Handler or Headbail drafting is now a piece of cake, with a specific multi purpose CATTLE HANDLER 3 WAY DRAFTER. This unit has small self closing access gates which allow person access to the HEADBAIL while at the same time not allowing an animal to walk through these. The drafting gates are operated either manually or by air, the latter meaning full handling from any position via remote or joy stick control. Fully Rubber block silenced there is no noise present when gates are closing.
CONSTRUCTION DETAIL Only qualified engineers and tradesman are constructing this top quality Handler, the unit’s construction is well thought out. If a Handler is to last and continue to do the job its designed to do there can simply be no shortcuts. It’s easy to slap something together and cover it with Galvanizing. It’s another thing to construct a real Handler. Special attention to the following is the reason why you get best value for money. PIPE OVER PIPE HINGING Pipe over pipe hinging is an expensive way in which to hang gates to ensure there is no sagging and the only way in which the gates and squeeze will function well and up to standard. Safety in knowing a gate will never come off its hinges. The flange on top and bottom end of the pipe over pipe construction means no seizing. The flanges also have grease holes that allow plenty of lubrication. ROUND PIPE CONSTRUCTION Round pipe is harder to work with than square box section, much more time and skill is involved in manufacturing this material, however round pipe means significantly reduced potential for animal bruising and much more safety for operators. It’s also much stronger and less subject to corrosion. The issue here again is not to save a few dollars but to focus on quality and safety. HEAVY UPRIGHTS All uprights are made of heavy grade steel, this ensures extra strength in the frame construction to ensure the unit will not come apart due to fatigue. SQUEEZETIA single or double sided squeeze needs proper support in order to function well and bear the strain. TechniPharm Handlers have a main frame which provides ample support (It is vital that the main frame holding the squeeze mechanism is 1/3 wider than the squeeze mechanism itself) and again the whole system is pipe over pipe and equipped with lubrication holes ensuring an easy and simple way to keep everything moving smooth and safe. The squeeze is locked via a HydraLock ram and is one handle operation, no pulleys, ropes or heavy lift up handles or ratchets. LUBRICATION POINTS Each Handler is equipped with lubrication points, to ensure the best and smoothest operation and reduce wear on moving parts. Grease holes as opposed to grease nipples ensure long-term sustainability and function. Dung and urine can play havoc with grease nipples and once they do not function anymore, the job simply gets put aside. Grease holes will always stay open and are accessible at any time. Regular greasing will keep your unit like new. MAIN FRAME CONSTRUCTION The main frame is the key to total strength. TechniPharm Handlers have the strongest, heaviest construction around, full corner supports and fully enclosed ends means this frame will stand up to between 20 and 30 ton bending strain. Our frames are Pre Stressed which means after thousands of animals and years of use the frame will be as straight and strong as it was when delivered. (Press tested) WELDING We use the latest equipment in welding all Handlers, no stick welding here! Our qualified tradesmen are determined to ensure the welds are strong, smooth and even. With pipe notching and a requirement to weld 360º degrees pipe over pipe joints the job simply has to be done right. “No smack’m flat bake it on” is allowed on a TechniPharm quality handler DOOR ROLLERS A sturdy, high density, quality, marine grade material is used for all slide gate rollers, this means smooth non corroding doors in sliders which will not seize! These are not just off-the-shelf rollers, they are specifically made for the job. Every door system uses 8 track shaped rollers and double supports. SMOOTH BENDS NO SHARP CORNERS There is no contact corner on a Dairy handler which is not rounded, a computerised pre programmed pipe bender is used to bend all gates, and pipe used in contact areas. This is an expensive process but ensures optimum overall strength and unsurpassed safety for the operator and animals. GALVANIZING Standard all units are Hot Dipped, this industry wide accepted coating gives excel;lent durability, it is however a consumable coating that means in time it will erode, the harder the zink needs to work to shorter it last.
Passive Lock - Hydralock® The Hydralock® is a patented locking system which was developed to eliminate noise and to create a very reliable fast locking system The locking is actioned by moving oil between two compartments which are separated by a checker valve. The system allows for infinite locking. In situ the system is always locked. A plunger releases the system, via the operating handle, ezy! Headwalls Its not very hard to make a cheap headbail, anyone can do this; two bits of pipe, a hinge, ratchet, a few levers, springs and bingo. As a matter of fact there are thousands of these right around the country on farms, and some companies still make them (some better than others). Unfortunately their use and safety records is past the “use by date” Why? simply we used to do a lot fewer jobs with animals, a bit of dehorning and a few eartags would have been about it. Farming has changed, and will change even more, this means we need to change the gear as well. Failing to do this will set us back, increase risk, waste time, reduce work pleasure and makes the job a lot harder than it should be. CONCERTINA HEADBAIL
This unit is specifically designed for dairy it has a rubber lined straight up and down yoke this is done to accommodate the 3 week old calf, yearling and adult Dairy cows and everything in between.
Dairy animals are generally more docile and as such do not need head placement to be specific. Further more if a yoke is in place it will be very hard to deal with animals under 3 months as they “can not reach” to the height of the placement yoke. The Dairy Handler headbail is also 200 mm shorter in height and is lighter. For Dairy like animals there is no need to have it so heavy. The unit is standard equipped with a HydraLock locking ram and rear operation module fitting which means you can obtain a rear operation kit and install this without having to modify the headbail. Neck extenders (extra long to reach all size animals) are optional.

Calf headbail
This headbail is superb for those farmers doing any work on calves at a young age. The headbail comes equipped with gudgeons for mounting and a drop in pin for locking the bail. The restraint preventing the calf from raising its head comes in the form of horizontal bar which is secured to the headbail to prevent the calf “Pulling up & out”.
