News release
RUDDWEIGH READY FOR EID Ruddweigh is ready for EID...Panels, Readers, Monitors, Stick Readers, Tags and all items needed for an EID system are all ready for the market place early 2007.
The Ruddweigh brand is marketed and distributed by TechniPharm NZ. It provides you a complete EID package from one supplier, including handling equipment for Sheep, Dairy and Cattle.
The pending introduction of Electronic Identification of the Nations farm animals will cause a revolution in how we handle and record data. It will not only provide for a Bio security safe guard of which the benefits to most may seem intangible, more so it will provide on farm management systems and data recording which will lead to significant productivity gains.
The ability to identify animals as they come through a Handling system means fast and accurate recording is possible, historical data per animal will be available at an instant, data down loads and drafting options by a range of criteria on ones fingertips.
EID will lead to more animals being managed effectively by less people. With a reduction in available labour and an aging farming population, farmers need every bit of productivity gain they can get their hands on.
EID will also for many farmers provide them with a stepping stone into the technological age of farming.
Over the next few months TechniPharm will be at various shows and fieldays around the country and showing off their total Handling and EID systems.

Nutrients Captured Are Nutrients Usable
"Fresher is better" Its well known that Volatilisation is creating not only N losses but also greenhouse gasses .
N kept on farm is N you do not have to buy .
When it comes to N in effluent fresher is better article by Aaron Staffort from a Agresearch study via Balance .
"Aaron says animal waste like manure and farm dairy effluent is a valuable source of nutrients, and farmers should be looking to maximise the value from this resource.
Aaron says all effluent is a valuable resource for delivering nutrients cheaply, although older effluent may mean different response rates.
"In total, plants respond similarly to nitrogen regardless of whether it is applied in fertiliser or effluent, although response patterns may be different due to differences in immediate availability. Minimising the loss of nitrogen from effluent and manure enables the full nutrient value of these resources to be realised."
But Aaron says as dairy farms shift to bigger effluent storage ponds and with the increased use of herd shelters and standoff pads to protect the environment, finding ways to minimise ammonia loss from effluent, both in storage and upon application, will bring more benefits to farmers by retaining more of the nutrient value of the effluent."
